The Best PDF Editors for Studying

PDF’s are useful tools for a variety of purposes. Official documents used for businesses, schools or law offices often use the PDF format since it is not only easy to use but also offers security to the user. The notion that PDFs are useful is not news of course, the issue is which editor does one use for the purpose of studying? There are many available on the market for a variety of costs and applications. Which one to choose can be a matter of preference and be based upon how it should be used.

Since there are so many different applications to choose from, what is the best way to evaluate them? The best way to evaluate them is to see what they can do and how they can be an asset for different uses. The most popular is Adobe Acrobat, but does popular mean best? It all depends on perspective and what it is needed for. Although there are many to choose from, there are ways to tell one from the other as they are not all interchangeable in terms of utility; moreover, some might offer more utility relative to cost and popularity than others.

Lumin PDF

Lumin PDF is a major PDF editing application that has become popular because of its shared functionality with other applications such as being able to be used with G-Suite and Google Docs. It is probably the easiest to use of the major PDF editors on the market and the ability to connect with your Google account adds increased security and reduced risk to your documents. It works directly with cloud technologies which is great for making sure you can access your PDFs anywhere which has become increasingly important in the last year, especially when used as a study tool since it reduces the risk of losing your information.

Some who might benefit from Lumin PDF would be education institutions and especially remote ones as well as students and teachers since it can be used as a PDF annotator for students. Also since it is connected to Google Docs, it is advantageous in terms of making sure everything is correct via spelling and grammar checker that is provided free with the service. Although Lumin PDF is not as well known as some of the other PDF editing applications such as Adobe Acrobat, it doesn’t mean it should be discounted when thinking about which application to use going forward.

Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat is the most popular PDF Editor due to its ability to adapt for different purposes relative to some other applications. In Adobe Acrobat, you can open a word document as a PDF which is good for some people who would prefer to type out a word or text document rather than working in the PDF viewer. As you can see though this does not make it the best necessarily but one of the PDF editors with the widest distribution. It is easy to use and has many different functions that you can use to edit a pdf and create markups/comments that might be helpful to those reading the document.

Even though Adobe Acrobat is popular, there are some drawbacks with it such as a subscription service that not everyone wants to continue paying for every year. As a non subscriber the utility of the application is severely reduced and basically just a PDF viewer at that point, so you have to consider whether it is worth the cost. As a PDF annotator it is good, but some of the edits can be difficult to make sometimes and there is a slight learning curve in its use but that can be said about many PDF editors.

Sejda PDF

While Sejda PDF has not been around as long as Adobe Acrobat, it has been around a while and has a good reputation in so far as it works as a usable and stable PDF editor that accomplishes what it intends to. If you need to edit or annotate a PDF document then it will work well, and like LuminPDF, it integrates with cloud based technologies although it lacks the Google integration that LuminPDF has. It has similar editing tools and utilities that most PDF editors have that one might need to change and/or annotate the document as needed to create a finished study document.

As a PDF Editor it can be quite useful and offer a service that makes it useful but perhaps not as flashy as some others, it does have some drawbacks in comparison to some other PDF editors that we are looking at. One of the major drawbacks with Sejda PDF are the limitation of features of the free version and sessions that timeout after a time. Sejda is not probably not the best free PDF editor for students.

Soda PDF

Soda PDF as other PDF editing services also cooperates with the cloud for easier access. With a user friendly and attractive Interface it is an attractive option that has some advantages compared to its counterparts aesthetically if nothing else. The good user interface creates a good user experience which allows for students or teachers to immerse themselves in the document that they are working on with fewer distractions. This is not to say that Soda PDF is the be all and end all free PDF editor, but it is a good one.

Although it has a nice interface and a free trial that comes with it, there are still some troubling issues with it such as the fact that many of the features puzzling have to be bought separately from the main product which can be a problem for many people who are not able to invest as much in a PDF editor. It works as a PDF annotator but having to buy different aspects of the product as bundles could price out students who might seek better alternatives online as a means to create and edit PDF documents.

These are not the only PDF editors available for studying but a sample of some of the more popular ones that dominate the market, they each have their own pro’s and con’s which will help people decide which is right for them. As we have seen recently, studying online or in person these days can come with different challenges and that is why having a trusted document editor to help eliminate potential headaches and other issues is a good way to turn the focus back to studying and away from distractions.
